[FIRST LOOK] KSR Architects’ competition-winning design for a structure for Camden Create Festival has been constructed outside Camden Town tube station

The north London-based practice designed the structure, which was in place for three days this week, to make use of a theatre and stage truss system.

Hanging from the structure were 640 multi-coloured and translucent tubes.

The pavilion was built on site by emerging small practice Build is Everything (AJ 31.10.13)

George Bevan of Build is Everything, said: ‘We were involved from the early stages to realise the project as a two day install and one day de-install. We brought in specialist events truss company Impact Production Services to install a climbing aluminium truss structure as well as working with Arup to provide structural information and testing of products to find the best way to construct the pavilion.’

The architect’s view

Brittania junction is a significant and key confluence of views and thoroughfares and the perfect location for an artwork that represents this hidden community.

The perfect square of compact coloured tubes represents the incredibly dense community of multi-disciplined creative businesses in Camden today. The tubes are hung like a kaleidoscopic wind chimes, allowing them to move and shapeshift in the wind. Each little collision represents the conversations, interactions, and networking being promoted between people.
