HÛT has won planning permission for four mews houses on a backland site in west London

The London-based practice’s 439m² scheme features two pairs of semi-detached houses arranged around shared green space on St Mary’s Road, Ealing.

Each house has living accommodation at ground level with a private side garden while bedrooms and bathrooms are below ground, lit by a sunken terrace. Living areas are spacious with lofty vaulted ceilings.

According to the architects, the scheme was inspired by a classic London square and features layered entrance porches, hung-tile defining roofs and flank walls.

Work is expected to start on site in 2019.
