HÛT Architecture has won planning permission for a commercial extension of a locally listed building in the heart of Clerkenwell
The east London practice’s plans for the 1,200m² scheme on Clerkenwell Road will extend the building by three storeys and include the excavation of the basement level.
The project, located in the Clerkenwell Green Conservation Area, also includes a terrace obscured by the steel fins and alterations to the shopfront on the ground floor which will be home to a café and restaurant.
Recommending the scheme for approval, Islington planning officers said the infill extension was of a ’high-quality contemporary design’ which will respectfully contrast the host building.
’The accurate restoration of some of the original features to the front elevation would improve the appearance of the locally listed building,’ the report said.
