Haverstock has won the go-ahead for a new adult learning centre in the grade II*-listed Alexandra Road Estate in Camden
The scheme will refurbish and adapt the grade II-listed Alexandra Priory School, part of Neave Brown’s innovative1970s Alexandra Road Estate in Camden.
Haverstock has developed a ‘low intervention strategy’ for the listed building which retains its existing joinery and finishes.
The new college will provide spaces for 50 pupils with severe and complex needs.
London Borough of Camden said it wanted to create a ‘hub’ where students can ‘learn, socialise, and develop new skills that can be transferred into the community’.
The scheme also includes new-build short-break accommodation for nine people.
This new building has been designed to Passivhaus standards and features marked concrete, black stained doors and windows and a cantilevered roof.
The project is set complete in two phases, the first in September 2015 and the final phase in February 2016.
