Hassell has completed this ‘healthy’ office scheme in Melbourne, Australia
The 47,750m2 project for Australian health insurer Medibank, has been designed around a new approach called ‘health-based working’ – a design style which according to the architects ‘places the mental and physical health of people at its heart’.
Those working in the office can select from more than 26 different working environments including indoor quiet spaces, collaborative hubs, wifi-enabled balconies, and places to stand and work.
The scheme also includes a sports hall on the ground floor, an edible garden, a demonstration kitchen, and two 25m-tall green walls.
More than 2,300 plants have been used in the building have been used to help ‘relieve stress, improve internal air quality and transforms views from grey to green’, while combined with the building’s curved shapes ‘convey a softer, more human character’.
Externally a public precinct has been created with a timber amphitheatre, cafes, shops and a public park.
Kylie Bishop, executive general manager of people and culture at Medibank, said: ‘[The building] epitomises our purpose and values and all that we stand for.’
