Hadid and Chipperfield join Caribbean zoo

  • Comment
Zaha Hadid is among the prize exhibits on show in a remarkable new 'zoo' of the world's hottest architectural talents brought together to develop an entire island in the Caribbean.

The London-based architect joins David Chipperfield, the 'origami emperor' Shigeru Ban, fellow Japanese star Kengo Kuma and Piero Lissoni on the project to turn the isle of Dellis Cay into a 70,000m 2luxury resort development.

Part of the Turks and Caicos Islands, the resort will be divided into separate 'lifestyle' areas and is being billed as an 'upscale, exclusive, private island serving the needs of affluent travellers.'

Hadid has been appointed to oversee the masterplan of Dellis Cay and will also get her hands on the 'futuristic-themed marina' zone with its hotels, berths for super-yachts and new lighthouse.

In addition the Pritzker Prize-winner will design the West Beach estate which will boast the island's longest beaches and 'largest villas.'

Meanwhile Chipperfield has been asked to mastermind the north beach lifestyle zone, including some of the development's most luxurious houses.

The resort, which is being backed by Cem Kinay's O Property Collection, is expected to open its doors to the first millionaire visitors in 2008.
