Green light for ADP's Leeds science campus

ADP’s Integrated Campus for Physical and Engineering Sciences at the University of Leeds has been given the green light by planners

Councillors on Leeds’ city plans panel voted last month (31 August) to approve the scheme, subject to conditions, in line with planning officer recommendations.

Described in the report as ‘the most complex building that the university has ever developed’, the new £37 million structure will be five and six storeys tall and include a deep basement.

Planning officers said there was a ‘tight timetable to ensure that the project is delivered on time and within projected costs’.

But they concluded: ‘It is considered that the public benefits of the development, in enabling the university to deliver a step change in achieving the university’s ambitions of world-class research and student education, outweigh the minor harm to the heritage significance of the building and its surroundings while alternative forms of development would be more harmful.

‘Consequently, the building works would comply with the National Planning Policy Framework and section 66 (1) of the Planning (Listed Building and Conservation Areas) Act 1990.’

ADP, which has offices in Manchester, completed a £16 million library for the University of Leeds two years ago.
