Gehry made a return to Paris but the return was followed shortly by a heated press conference
Frank Gehry returned to Paris after a 22-year absence to design a gallery to house the art collection owned by the LVMH (Moët Henessy-Louis Vuitton) company.
The LV Foundation is an ostentatious explosion of glass, concrete and timber beams. Predictably, it divided opinion – is this the work of a contemporary master given free reign, or a vulgar display of wealth for the richest man in France?
Maybe all the criticism got to the octogenarian. Shortly after the opening of the Paris building, Gehry responded to a journalist’s question in Spain by giving the middle finger and going on to say: ‘98 per cent of what gets built and designed today is pure shit’.
