Friends and colleagues of architect Kathryn Findlay celebrated her life and work at an event at the Architectural Association last week
Peter Rees, Simon Conder, Robert Adam, Jill Ritblatt and Sadie Morgan were among friends and colleagues who gathered at the Architectural Association last week to celebrate the life and work of Kathryn Findlay, a former student of the institution.
Around 100 people heard tributes from close friends Conder, Jenny White of the British Council and AJ acting editor Rory Olcayto, who shared their memories of the ‘genius’ architect alongside those of her children, architect Miya and entrepreneur Hugo Ushida.
Ritblatt recalled times spent together creating one of Findlay’s thatched pool houses, while Conder reflected on their close friendship and Olcayto discussed her pioneering design methodologies. George Thomson, who is engaged to Findlay’s daughter, also spoke.
Guests enjoyed whisky and Dundee cake and a slideshow of Findlay’s work, including rare images of her student projects.
Findlay died in January after being diagnosed with a brain tumour the previous summer.
