Four UK practices make AR Emerging Architecture shortlist

Area grid revised copy

IF_DO, 31/44 Architects, Spheron Architects and EVA Studio are among 15 practices shortlisted for the 2017 AR Emerging Architecture awards

The London-based practices will present their work to a panel at the World Architecture Festival in Berlin next month. The jury includes Bangladeshi architect and 2016 Aga Khan Award winner Marina Tabassum, Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas and Sauerbruch Hutton co-founder Matthias Sauerbruch.

IF_DO’s Dulwich Pavilion was the centrepiece of this year’s London Architecture Festival. This week it was announced that the structure is to be rebuilt in a local primary school. 31/44 Architects this year completed its Red House residence in East Dulwich. EVA Studio was shortlisted for this year’s AJ Small Projects Awards for its Tapis Rouge public space in Haiti. Spheron Architects completed the Belarusian Memorial Chapel at the end of last year, London’s first wooden church since 1666.

The judging process and award celebrations for the AREA awards will be held at WAF from 15 to 17 November in Berlin. The winner will receive a £10,000 prize – and, alongside the shortlisted projects, will be published in a special edition of The Architectural Review. The awards are now in their 19th year.
