Foster + Partners is among five teams invited to participate in a competition to design a £610 million corporate headquarters in Shenzhen, China
The practice was the only UK team chosen for the invited contest backed by China’s largest investment bank CITIC Securities and Goldstone Zexin Investment Management.
The other participating practices are Hong Kong-based Rocco Design Architects, US outfit Gensler, local firm Huayi Design, and the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design.
The project will create a landmark headquarters for CITIC on a prominent 31,463m² site within the waterfront Shenzhen Bay Super Headquarters Base development district, which neighbours a large golf course and parkland.
The competition comes six months after China’s second-largest property developer, the Evergrande Group, launched a contest for a £344 million corporate headquarters nearby.
Foster + Partners completed a 55,000m² campus for the China Resources University in eastern Shenzhen two years ago. In May, the practice also revealed plans for a new high-rise headquarters for Chinese robotics company DJI in the major coastal city, featuring quadruple-height drone flight testing labs.
The winner of the latest contest, due to be announced on 13 November, will receive the design contract while one runner-up will be awarded £170,000.
