Foster Lomas scoops planning for visitor centre on Isle of Man

Foster Lomas has won the go-ahead for a £150,000 visitor centre on the Isle of Man

PROJECT DATA • PLANS • SECTION

Sitting in an area of outstanding natural beauty, the 66m2 scheme will act as a visitor centre for a new privately-owned nature reserve which is being created on the island.

The scheme will house a library and an education and exhibition space and will provide a base for tourists, schools and the local community to explore the natural landscape and clear skies found at the site.

According to the practice, the scheme draws inspiration from the ‘island’s unique style of vernacular architecture’.

It will be built from a pre-fabricated timber structure and clad in corrugated metal designed to reflect the agricultural heritage of its context.

The project forms part of a long-term strategy for the restoration, conservation and management of the site.

Back in 2014, Foster Lomas won planning for a stone-built house for the owners of the nature reserve.
