Speaking at the AJ Small Projects Awards launch last week, Niall McLaughlin recalled his early contest-winning designs for a radical houseboat
The boat, which he designed in 1999, featured a floating deck with carbon fibre and glazed walls. McLaughlin said there had been interest in building the project as far afield as Alabama and New York. In fact the boat, dsign developed a cult following.
‘A website was even set up to try to find it, with one person claiming they knew where it was hidden,’ said McLaughlin. But they were under an illusion – the boat was never actually built.
