HÛT Architecture has completed the renovation of a derelict building on a triangular site opposite King’s Cross station, London
The mixed-use development contains four floors of office space above a restaurant on the ground floor that extends into the converted basement.
Internally the building was gutted and re-structured with a new steel frame inserted behind a retained brick skin.
A glass-clad rooftop pavilion formed from a highly reflective material that followsthe curve of the building, which is ‘designed to create a surface that changes appearance depending on the angle it is viewed from’, tops the building.

‘For a building occupying such a prominent site, it had very little street presence and we saw this project as an opportunity to redefine the building’s relationship to its surroundings whilst creating high-quality office space. The architectural presence of the rooftop pavilion re-brands a building that previously lacked any kind of distinct identity.
