Allies and Morrison unveils Elephant & Castle academy

  • Comment

[FIRST LOOK] Allies and Morrison has completed an academy for 925 boys at the Aylesbury Estate in south London

The building is part of the ongoing regeneration of the Aylesbury Estate and will address the shortfall in local school places in Southwark.

An existing four-storey Victorian school building has been refurbished and connected by a metal-clad entrance pavilion alongside a flexible performance space to a new teaching block. This four-storey brick building contains open plan teaching spaces dedicated to science, technology, engineering and maths, grouped around a central atrium.

A new stand-alone sports hall is seperated from the teaching block by three multi-purpose games pitches.

The academy is near Alsop Sparch’s Michael Faraday Community School, which was also built as part of the regeneration of the Aylesbury Estate and opened in September 2010.
