Shoreditch-based AVAA Architecture has won permission for this £700,000 ‘linear’ house in the Blackheath conservation area
The proposal for Langton Way in south-east London - where AVAA is already working on four other houses - will see the demolition of five derelict garages to build a for a four-bedroom home.
Constructed from pre-cast concrete panels, the road side of the house will be ‘softened by a planted verge and a continuous canopy’. On the ground floor the house is divided into a loung and kitchen/dining room that both face the garden.
The first floor is book-ended by bathrooms, that are clad in timber louvres and designed to ‘glow like lanterns after dark’. In between the bathrooms four bedrooms are placed in a row with etched white glass screens that control views to avoid overlooking neighbouring gardens.
