FaulknerBrowns’ Number One Riverside office building for Rochdale Council has been named the British Council for Offices’ (BCO) ‘Best of the Best’

As well as picking up the top gong at the BCO’s awards ceremony last night (7 October), the office building also bagged the gong for Best Corporate Workplace.

Judges said the project, which brought together 1,700 employees, formerly scattered across 33 different buildings under a single roof, had created a ‘sense of community, engagement and social transparency.’

FaulknerBrown’s office building also includes a public library and a café.

BCO Awards chairman, Tim Robinson said: Number One Riverside is a true catalyst that will facilitate the transformation and regeneration of the borough of Rochdale. This project united the judges in its success and importance as a focal point for Rochdale.’

Richard Kauntze, chief executive of the BCO, added: Each of the buildings recognised in this year’s National Awards represent the very best in visionary office design and functionality. They demonstrate how taking an occupier-centric approach can create innovative and efficient spaces that, as an industry, we can be very proud of.’

Last year the award was picked up by Michael Laird Architects’ overhaul of Gore-Tex manufacturer’s offices.
