Plans for a 34-storey private rented sector (PRS) residential tower drawn up by Falconer Chester Hall have been submitted to Liverpool City Council
The proposed scheme, which would provide 304 flats for rent, forms part of the controversial Liverpool Waters development backed by the Peel Group.
Located at Prince’s Dock, the £80 million scheme is being developed by Moda Living – part of Caddick Group and funded by Apache Capital Partners through a PRS joint venture.
Richard Jackson, co-founder and managing director of Apache Capital Partners, said: ’This building has been designed to provide a legacy for Liverpool and its historic skyline.
’It will offer our customers a new aspirational residence and lifestyle that does not yet exist in Liverpool, combining the highest levels of design, amenities and services.’
The scheme includes communal facilities, including a 17th-floor residents’ lounge, gym, roof terrace, garden, fitness studio and a cinema.
The developers say the design takes its inspiration from the historical relationship between Liverpool and New York, and ‘complements the existing local mercantile architecture including the Liver Building, the Cunard Building and the Port of Liverpool Building’.
Peel’s contentious vision for the 60 hectares of former docklands - which first emerged a decade ago - has been heavily criticised by heritage campaigners.
Last year, UNESCO called for a moratorium on new building work across the central Liverpool waterfront area due to the potential damage it could cause the World Heritage Site.
The United Nations’ cultural body endorsed the conclusions of an advisory mission that visited Liverpool in February which stated its ‘deep concerns’ over the impact the Liverpool Waters development would have on the World Heritage Site (WHS) of Liverpool - Mercantile City.
