Everton FC submits stadium designs for planning

Everton Football Club submitted its proposals for a new stadium in Kirkby, north Liverpool, to Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council yesterday.

Designed by architect and contractor Barr with specialist stadium advisor KSS Design Group, the scheme – which is being backed by supermarket giant Tesco – will create a £400 million new home for the club, as well as a new shopping district which will double the size of the town.

It is understood Tesco will provide Kirkby with a 24-hour Tesco Extra store and around 50 new high street shops to go alongside the 50,000-seat stadium.

Among the proposals are plans to build a staggering 3,500-space car park, 1,000 of which will be allocated to football fans on match days.

Everton FC and Tesco hope to have planning approval as early as the spring, with work to start on site later this year.
