Eden beats Angel as top UK landmark

  • Comment

Grimshaw’s Eden Project has been named as the landmark that best defines 21st-century Britain, in a ranking drawn up by The Independent and British AirwaysHigh Life magazine

Judges of the list, who included architect Will Alsop and RIBA president Stephen Hodder, said the scheme ‘looked like it had been lifted from the pages of a science fiction comic’.

The ETFE biomes were joined in the top three by the Angel of the North sculpture and Coventry Cathedral, which was rebuilt by Basil Spence after it was largely destroyed by Second World War bombing.
