London-based Draisci Studio has won the contest to design RIBA’s lounge at MIPIM UK in October
The practice, which featured in the AJ’s 40 under 40, saw off competition from 23 other entries to design the space for the property fair.
The RIBA lounge will occupy a 200m² area in the exhibition hall providing a space for RIBA members to meet clients.
Francesco Draisci, said: ‘We feel very excited by the challenging opportunity of creating a spatial manifestation of the RIBA institution in the prestigious context of MIPIM UK.’
Peter De Soissons, sales director for MIPIM UK organisers Reed Midem UK, added: ‘Once again we had a phenomenal response for the design of the RIBA MIPIM UK visitors lounge, with spectacular and varied proposals.
‘Making the final selection was very difficult, with such high calibre entries and imaginative ideas, thank you to all the practises who entered the competition. Finally the panel agreed on Draisci studio for its memorable and innovative work to create a warm and stimulating space. The concept is colourful, stylish and playful whilst committing to the use of simple, cost effective and sustainable techniques throughout the design process.’
Last year emerging outfit Neon designed an ‘exaggerated pin-up board’ for the lounge space, using hundreds of black and white images both taken from the RIBA archive and submitted by architects to define the meeting place.
MIPIM UK takes place from 21 – 23 October at London’s Olympia.
The event will also host the AJ’s Architecture Tomorrow exhibition – a curated show of forthcoming projects designed by UK architects.
