The practice beat Carmody Groarke, Molyneux Kerr, Meadowcroft Griffin and Witherford Watson Mann to work on the 1729 Nicholas Hawksmoor-designed church.
Dow Jones Architects director Alun Jones said ‘Needless to say we are excited. The church is one of our favourite buildings in London so for us to be working on it is really special.’
The aim of the scheme is to extend public access to the space by including a café, a dedicated chapel and gallery or performance spaces.
Christ Church itself underwent extensive restoration in 2004. The refurbishment of the crypt and the 1735 organ are the two outstanding elements, both of which will begin shortly.
