Terry Tyrrell has been announced as the new chair of charity Design Council

The Design Council trustee takes over the role from Martin Temple, who resigned earlier this week. Temple chaired the council for five years and will now become chair of the Health and Safety Executive Board (HSE).

Tyrell – who joins from his previous role as chair of design agency Brand Union – said it was an ‘honour’ to be selected as the charity is entering a ‘new phase’. Potential plans include large-scale programmes, as well as n positive social, environmental and economic change.

He added: ’As a trustee of Design Council, I get to see first-hand how fundamental design is to both business and society.

’Our aim, as we move forward under a new strategic plan, is to ensure that design receives the recognition it deserves.’

One of Tyrrell’s first tasks will be helping to appoint Tyrell a new chief executive of Design Council.

Tyrrell’s role will begin immediately.
