Spending Review: DCMS budget cut by £300 million

  • Comment

Chancellor George Osborne has slashed the budget of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) from around £1.4 billion to £1.1billion

Announced during the Comprehensive Spending Review (CSR) earlier today (20 October), Osborne said there would be 41 per cent reduction in administration costs at the department.

He also confirmed the abolition of 19 of the 55 DCMS-sponsored quangos, as reported as reported last week. There will be 5 per cent cuts in core programmes but free museum entry will remain.

The full CSR document is attached (right).
