Pocket submits plans for 24-storey 'micro-flats' tower

  • Comment

Metropolitan Workshop has submitted plans for this 24-storey tower in south London - the largest scheme to date for micro-housing specialist Pocket Living

The development on the ‘constrained site’ in Mapleton Crescent, in Wandsworth town centre will create 86 homes including 63 flats which will be just 38m².

These ‘affordable Pocket homes’ would be sold at a ‘discount of at least 20 per cent’ off’ local property prices.

Earlier this year the developer ran an invited ideas competition to design a compact affordable two-bedroom flat in London measuring less than 61m² (AJ 15.01.15)

According to Metropolitan Workshop, the Wandsworth homes will be for sale to ‘middle-income Londoners who are salaried out of social housing and priced out of the property market’ and aimed at those with a household income of less than £66,000.

The practice adds: ‘The clever design of Pocket homes reflects young Londoners’ prioritisation of location over space, while complying with the Greater London Authority’s space standard guidelines.’

The Wandsworth tower scheme, which includes rooftop gardens, shared balconies and a riverside terrace, features a pleated facade featuring ‘three different kinds of green ceramic panel’.
