Exclusive: Retrofit Awards shortlist revealed

  • Comment

The shortlist for the inaugural Retrofit Awards has been revealed, with 37 entries battling to be named leaders in a sector potentially worth £500 billion over the next 30 years

In partnership with the BEST Show and New Civil Engineer, the AJ launched the Retrofit Awards in April to celebrate outstanding retrofit projects completed in the UK in the last three years.

The awards will be handed out on 19 October at a ceremony at the ICC, Birmingham. The categories are: commercial, large-scale domestic, smallscale domestic, future project, infrastructure, innovation, public building and public engagement.

The UK is committed to cutting carbon emissions by 80 per cent by 2050, which could mean a goldmine of work for practices. Paul Finch, editorial director of the AJ, said: ‘Retrofit will be critical in upgrading the built environment to meet the challenge of a lowcarbon future.’

Among the shortlisted projects are: Allford Hall Monaghan Morris’ Horseferry House; Park Hill by Studio Egret West; Hawkins\Brown’s Stoke Newington Town Hall; Shepheard Epstein Hunter’s Clapton Library; Trevor Horne Architects’ Annroy building; and Prewett Bizley Architects’ C80 house.
