BIG, Herzog and de Meuron and CF Moller vie for Danish hospital

Swiss stars Herzog & de Meuron will compete with local giants BIG and CF Moller for the right to design a £425 million hospital in Denmark.

The trio were shortlisted from an original long list of seven teams for the New North Zealand Hospital scheme.

BIG, which has offices in Copenhagen, New York and Beijing, is teamed with Houston-based WHR Architects and UK-based global engineers Arup for the contest.

CF Moller, a practice with three studios in Denmark and others in Sweden, Norway and the UK, leads a consortium including Danish consultants Ramboll and Berkshire-based project managers Alectia.

Ramboll also features in the third team, led by Basel-based Herzog & de Meuron and including Copenhagen firm Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects.

New North Zealand Hospital will have a floor area in excess of 125,000m2.

It will be developed on a greenfield site north of Copenhagen, and construction of a train station will be part of the overall development.

The facility is due to open in 2020, with a decision on the winning architect expected next spring.
