Will Alsop’s practice aLL Design has drawn up plans for this mixed-use development in Brentford, west London
Currently out to consultation, the scheme in Capital Interchange Way next to the M4 and a proposed new stadium for Brentford FC (see AJ 10.12.13), includes 350 homes, business pods, a car showroom, a raised park and a new bus depot.
Backed by Hounslow Council, the project on the 84ha site is being billed as a ‘significant part’ of the renaissance of the Golden Mile - the industry-lined stretch of the Great West Road running west from the boundary with Chiswick.
Alsop said: ‘Our aim is to make a positive contribution to the Golden Mile which, broadly speaking, follows the M4 section of the motorway, and is a gateway to London for millions of people each year.
‘The requirement for the bus depot was of primary importance and led the team to design a mixed-use development that includes recreational facilities and a park; thus creating both a transport and community hub.
‘Furthermore we aim to establish an exemplar of environmental engineering, by reusing energy to supply the needs of people living and working locally.
‘[Our] ethos is “to make life better”, and this project is an exceptional opportunity to put that into practice. We are looking forward to working closely with Hounslow Council and the local community to realise this ambition.’
The scheme is expected to be submitted for planning this winter.
