HLM Architects has been given the go-ahead for a £22 million school of acting in Guildford, Surrey.

The 10,700m2 project will bring together all of the Guildford School of Acting's (GSA) existing facilities - currently spread out over seven sites - onto one campus in Woodbridge Meadows.

The new Conservatoire has been designed for 100 staff and 350 full-time students and will house educational, residential and office space in two buildings - the tallest a five storey structure with a 'randomly coloured' double-skin facade.

As well as providing 16 teaching studios, a 150-seat theatre and a library, there are also plans for new set-building facilities, a café-bar and a restaurant.

Work is scheduled to start on site this summer and the school is due to open its doors to students in 2008.
