Ever fancied a helicopter ride over London? Well one lucky winner could be in with the chance for a ride in Norman Foster’s private helicopter.
Unfortunately Foster himself won’t be in attendance but the starchitect has donated a flight as part of a charity auction run by New York’s Van Alen Institute. At the time of going to press the current bid for the ‘priceless’ experience stood at $1,450 (£940).
Other lots up for grabs in the star-studded auction include a trip to see smoke ring testing at BIG’s new waste-to-energy power plant with Bjarke Ingels, birdwatching with Jeanne Gang, a day shadowing Ben van Berkel in his Amsterdam office, and perhaps most enticing of all, a dip in a hot tub with Charles Renfro.
Meanwhile, a more tangible item is up for auction in the UK. Reginald Bloomfield’s 1913 RIBA Royal Gold Medal is being sold at Newmarket-based auction house Rowley’s.
The medal, which recognised the architect’s work including the Menin Gate at Ypres, is expected to fetch around £8,000.
