David Chipperfield Architects and Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) have joined the Women in Architecture partner programme, run by the AJ and sister title The Architectural Review

The initiative, which aims to improve conditions for women in the profession and acknowledge the outstanding contribution made by female architects to the wider industry, now has 18 partner practices.

ZHA’s architect workforce is already 40 per cent female and the firm’s founder Zaha Hadid won the prestigious Jane Drew Prize at the 2012 Women in Architecture Awards.

On accepting the prize Hadid said: ’Women architects need some support from others who have made that journey.

‘You now see more established, respected female architects all the time. That doesn’t mean it’s easy. Sometimes the difficulties are incomprehensible.’

Women in Architecture partners support an office culture and working practice that represents excellence, using internal audits to benchmark progress.

The programme also runs a series of events throughout the year, such as speed mentoring held at the offices of Women in Architecture partner Grimshaw earlier this week..
