Chapman Taylor to extend Rogers-designed shopping centre

Chapman Taylor is set to double the size of a Rogers-designed retail park in Ashford, Kent

The expansion of the Ashford Designer Outlet, originally designed by Richard Rogers Partnership in 2000, will add a further 16,250m² of retail space.

The plans, which have yet to be submitted for planning, include an additional 30 shops and restaurants.

The shopping centre was originally designed as a ring of accommodation beneath a 30,000m² tensile roof, which, when it was completed in 2000 was the world’s longest continuous tent structure.

Chapman Taylor’s proposal fits within this ring of buildings and will extend towards Ashford’s town centre.

The new extension is set to open by 2017.

  • Why not appoint Richard Roger's office to do this? Instead we have the usual boring commercial nothing.
