The £18.5 million scheme was is backed by stakeholders Westminster Council and business district alliance Heart of London, which will be stumping up £15 million between them. The other £3.5 million will come from Transport for London.

Burns + Nice saw off the likes of Gustafson Porter, Robert Meier and Gillespies to win the project, and according to the practice, one of the key aspects of the new designs is a 200m-long, white granite ‘ribbon’ seat that frames the garden.
