Conservative MP Nick Boles has urged the chancellor to create a Grenfell housing commission, which would deliver 50,000 affordable homes, in this Wednesday’s budget
Speaking on the BBC Daily Politics soapbox series, the MP for Grantham and Stamford said the government should also launch a ‘Grenfell bond’ to provide the billions of pounds needed to fund this housing, and that the commission would act as a memorial to those who died in the tragic fire.
’[The chancellor] should launch a new Grenfell Housing commission to build 50,000 affordable homes across the country, and issue a new Grenfell Bond to raise £50 billion to pay for them,’ said the former minister of state for skills.
‘What better way, what better memorial, to the people who lost their lives in the dreadful Grenfell tower fire.’
Speaking on the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show on Sunday (19 November), chancellor Phillip Hammond said he will unveil plans to build 300,000 new homes a year in Wednesday’s Budget.
