Brown + Brown gets the OK for 'floating' Ayrshire house

  • Comment

Aberdeen-based Brown + Brown Architects has won the go-ahead for this ‘elevated pavilion-style house’ raised above the slope of a Victorian walled garden in rural Ayrshire

The 159m² Badger’s Keep scheme has been designed for a globetrotting couple, who most recently lived in Zambia and Estonia and who wanted to create a contemporary, low-energy house.

According to the practice, the ‘floating’ design avoids the need for ‘disruptive and expensive foundations, which would disturb the garden’.

The house will be clad in burnt timber and features a wrap-around deck.

Work is expected to start on site next spring.
