The architect's Manchester office submitted a planning application for the £6.1 million project at the end of 2005.
The project will include this new three-storey building, that will feature a new library, teaching and seminar facilities as well as office space for lecturers and administrative staff. The scheme will also include additional lecture space, for use by the wider university.
Deputy director of estates at Salford University Mike Begley said: 'We are putting considerable investment, not only in the provision of a new building, but also in the academic and support infrastructure necessary to facilitate such a venture.
'Broadway Malyan was selected following stiff competition as the overall tender, based upon quality and value, was considered to be the most suited to the university's needs.'
