Google has released new plans by Heatherwick Studios and Danish practice BIG for its new Mountain View headquarters in California
Now new plans for a smaller neighbouring site, Charleston East, have been released. The site lies on 7.4ha of land to the east of Google’s current HQ, Googleplex. The company had previously acquired the site on a long-term lease for office development.
Gone are the bubble domes, replaced with ‘pavillions’ covered by translucent canopies, housing shops, cafés and meetings rooms on the ground floors, and ’Googlers’ and flexible office space on the first floors.
The ‘green loop’ path remains from the original plans, which winds through the site and provides cycle and pedestrian access to the campus.
Google HQ 1,
The scheme will have about 55,000m² of space in the pavilions, 4,180m² of interior landscaping, and 2043m² of public walkways.
The amended plans are currently under review by the city planners.
