Australian architect Elenberg Fraser has won planning for a new 226m-high, 68-storey tower in Melbournce which takes it’s inspiration from Beyoncé
The new tower at 134 Spencer Street will feature curvaceous facade which has paid homage to Beyonce’s music video for Ghost, which features undulating fabric-wrapped bodies.
According to the practice the twists and turns of the new project which will feature 660 apratments, retail space and a 160-bed hotel will ‘belie its pur and simple, first principles rationale - Occam himself would be proud’.
A statement on the developer’s website said: ‘This project is the culmination of our significant research into how to best work with individual site and climatic constraints, brought together using our new parametric modelling techniques.
‘The complex form - a vertical cantilever - is actually the most effective way to redistribute the building’s mass, giving the best results in terms of structural dispersion, frequency oscillation and wind requirements.
‘The form does pay homage to something more aesthetic - we’re going to trust you’ve seen the music video for Beyoncé’s Ghost.’
