AJ120 practice Berman Guedes Stretton has won planning for a £40 million refurbishment of Oxford Brookes’ Headington Campus

The project marks the first phase of a ten-year upgrade of the university’s facilities and will see the Sinclair Building, Clerici Building, former library and Main Hall revamped.

The plans include the refurbishment and overcladding of the Sinclair building and the refurbishment of the Clerici Building and former library buildings. A new entrance, facilities for the Faculty of Business, lecture theatre and shared teaching spaces for the university at large will be created.

To improve circulation around the site, the main lecture theatre will be demolished. In addition, the Main Hall will be knocked down and replaced by a multi-purpose facility with retractable seating and removable wall. New landscaping will provide better pedestrian and controlled vehicle access. According to the architect, the designs seek ‘to bring uniformity and consistency to the disparate styles and structures’.

Berman Guedes Stretton has also secured a place on Oxford Brookes University’s framework for future projects.
