Belsize Architects wins planning for Oxford student housing

  • Comment

North London-based Belsize Architects has won the go-ahead for a new student housing scheme in Oxford

Set on the site of a Victorian residential home, the 30 multibedroom units will be arranged within six ‘pavilion’ blocks and form part of a larger masterplan for University College Oxford.

According to the practice, the development is ‘a departure from typical student housing instead offering accommodation on a friendly, domestic scale for students.’

At pre-application stage, CABE praised the ‘the strong, sculptural forms’ of the pavilions and claimed the ‘orientation of the blocks towards each other generated a dialogue between the buildings and their users while the architectural treatment gave a sense of privacy and uniqueness to each building’.
