BDP-penned proposals for Stockport Station revamp emerge

  • Comment

A BDP-designed masterplan aimed at regenerating the area around Stockport Station and strengthening pedestrian connections within the town centre has been unveiled

The scheme is designed to breathe new life into the station – on the London-Manchester mainline – and transform it into a more welcoming facility with redeveloped concourses, better platform access, and direct links with car parks.

Stockport Council commissioned BDP, professional-services consultants WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, and economic consultants Ekosgen, to create a vision for the station that would build on ongoing local regeneration work that includes neighbouring Stockport Exchange development.

Adrian Kemp, project director at WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff said the vision had brought together extensive expertise from rail infrastructure to economic assessment and transport planning, to design a scheme that was ’ambitious but deliverable’.

Stockport Council said that work to secure funding for the station vision would now begin.
