Artist Alex Chinneck has created a house from wax which will gradually melt
Built from 8,000 wax bricks, Chinneck’s life-size two-storey house which ‘mirrors the scale, design and scenery of an archetypal property’ will melt over 30 days leaving just the roof on the floor in a pile of melted wax.
The house will be melted manually with handheld heating apparatus commonly used in roofing applications.
The installation forms part of London Bankside’s Merge Festival and celebrates an old candle making factory which was once based in the area.
The London-based artist has previously completed a ‘sliding’ brick house in Margate, and is currently working on an installation in Covent Garden.
