A team which includes Architecture 00 and Allies and Morrison has won the job to masterplan the town centre of Sutton in outer London
The team has been asked to come up with an ‘ambitious masterplan’ for the town which can be developed over the next 15 years. This long-term vision will feature new homes, a primary school, improved transport links and better public spaces.
Sutton Borough Council also wants the plans to incorporate a number of ‘potential big-ticket developments’ including the extension of the Tramlink from Wimbledon to Sutton Station in 2020 and the new London Cancer Hub in Belmont, billed as Europe’s largest Life Science Cluster.
Bilfinger GVA director Chris Hall, who leads its London and South-East spatial planning and regeneration team, said: ‘London is in a period of significant change and Outer London communities such as Sutton are seeing housing, retail and economic dynamics that can be harnessed to achieve local-defined aspirations.’
The masterplan aims to complement the council’s existing local plan which it is currently reviewing as part of its wider vision for the whole of Sutton in 2031-32.
