Architects join Paddington Trail

Zaha Hadid and Robin Partington & Partners have designed customised statues for a charity promotion connected with the upcoming Paddington film.

The Paddington Trail features more than 50 statues of Michael Bond’s classic character, modeled by pops stars, actors and designers, and dotted around central London.

Hadid’s Paddington is titled ‘RGB’ and according to sponsors Keltbray ‘reimagines the classic colours of Paddington Bear’s signature hat, raincoat and wellingtons as ‘a perfect gradient that camouflages the bear, yet makes him perhaps even more recognisable’.

It is situated outside the Royal Exchange in the City of London.

The Partington ‘Brick Bear’ was designed by staff member Shane Parker, and selected from a shortlist of submissions that included ‘Architect Paddington’, ‘Le Corbusi Bear’ and ‘Isambard Kingdom Bearnel’.

It is opposite the Hammersmith & City Line entrance to Paddington Station.

Designers of other statues include actress Nicole Kidman, singer Liam Gallagher, artist and interior designer Ryan McElhinnery, and fashion designer Matthew Williamson.

The bears are on display until December 30, after which they will be auctioned in aid of the NSPCC.

Partingtons’ bear is sponsored by developer European Land.
