[FIRST LOOK + PLANS + PROJECT DATA] Winchester-based AR Design Studio has won planning for a £450,000 house in Lyme Regis
The five-bedroom house on the Dorset Coast will have views across the English Channel.
The 180m² scheme features a large open plan living area with bedroom wings arranged off the space.
The scheme is set to start on site in autumn 2015 and is due to complete in summer 2016.
The architect’s view
Secluded on the Dorset coast with incredible views across the English Channel, The Crow’s Nest has a very enviable location.
The key was to maximise these stunning views towards the sea and back towards the cliff side thereby providing a picture perfect outlook from any point within the house. Attention has been paid not only to the views from the home, but how it will be viewed from the coast. The result is a series of stepped forms that enable the building to follow the landscape and break down into the hillside in which it resides.
The client’s desire for a contemporary holiday home for friends and family led to a scheme that looked to divide up the functions of the house. These are then bound together through an axial glazed route that draws both family and friends together into the main communal space.
