Allies and Morrison lands more work at White City

Stanhope has appointed Allies and Morrison to design a further three office blocks on the BBC Media Village site in west London 

The AJ100 practice is already working with the developer and its funding partners Mitsui and AIMCo on the refurbishment of a number of existing buildings within the emerging 7ha business district, now known as White City Place.

The latest development will create an extra 100,000m² of office space in a trio of new-build blocks on the 1.6ha Gateway Site (shown on the map below in red) close to BBC Television Centre - a sister scheme to the south masterplanned for Stanhope by AHMM (shown in blue).

At White City Place, the developer has already pre-let space totalling 37,161m² to the BBC in the Broadcast Centre, Energy Centre and Lighthouse buildings.

A second phase (shown in orange above) was launched earlier this month and features three refurbished office schemes, namely the MediaWorks (21,460m²), Garden House (3,716m²) and West Works (27,500m²).

The third stage, on the Gateway site, will be submitted for planning next month.

What’s what on the Gateway Site

  • Gateway East will be the largest building on the site and will front onto the newly created Arrival Square and Wood Lane. The building will provide 62,690m² of office floorspace and 2,287m² of retail space. The current programme would see Gateway East completed and occupied in 2020.
  • Gateway Central will be a major new office building providing 34,838m² of office and retail floorspace. The building will be of varied height, rising from 3 to 10 storeys with shops, cafés and restaurants at ground level.
  • Gateway West, the smallest of the three proposed new buildings, will be a low rise structure of 4 storeys providing 3,064m² of office floor space. The small scale increases the range of office types available at White City Place, and will attract smaller employers.

Stanhope intends to submit outline applications for Gateway West and Gateway Central and detailed planning for Gateway East in July 2016.
