Allies & Morrison and Woods Bagot reveal London skyscraper plans

[First look] Allies and Morrison with Woods Bagot has revealed the latest plans for a 40-storey tower in the City of London

The 130,000m² project - which sees the two practices collaborating under the banner AMWB - features flexible office space, a five-storey podium and public realm.

Woods Bagot director Earle Arney said: ‘Since the 2008 Global Financial Crisis, tenants are increasingly demanding intelligent floor plates that genuinely provide a strategic resource to create value for business; enhancing their culture, efficiency and engagement of employees.

‘The uniqueness of the 100 Bishopsgate project is that the two acre corner site in the heart of the City has enabled AMWB to deliver such a ‘tenant driven’, mixed use work environment with a significant new public realm around which the three buildings front.

‘The resulting design is extraordinary in the context of the Square Mile as it not only provides ‘clean-skin’ cores within large, regular floor plates, but also creates a new public place that serves to lift the spirit and enhance the urban fabric of the City of London’.

Allies and Morrison partner Graham Morrison said: ‘In the design of a new tower forming part of the City cluster, it has been possible to reconcile the potentially contradictory disciples of rational floor plates and strong site geometry. The three buildings, which form the development, are separated by a significant new public space, creating a larger and more active public realm’.

A 2,000m² public realm will provide public access between Bishopsgate, St Mary’s Axe and Outwich Street. The scheme received planning in 2011.
