AJ up for four major journalism awards

  • Comment

The AJ has been shortlisted in four key categories of the Periodical Publishers Association (PPA) Awards - the most prestigious accolades in magazine publishing

Regarded by many as the industry’s Oscars, the awards attracted more than 500 entries from the publishing world’s biggest names, including GQ magazine, Elle, Time Out and the Radio Times.

The AJ has been shortlisted for business magazine of the year, with AJ editor Rory Olcayto named among the finalists for both editor of the year (business media) and columnist of the year (business media).

Meanwhile Rakesh Ramchurn was shortlisted for writer of the year (business media).

Olcayto said: ‘This is the strongest showing AJ has had in the PPA shortlists for almost a decade. Last year we set out to build the best editorial team in architectural journalism, and this nod from PPA – in four categories - is a great endorsement of our efforts.”

Barry McIlheney, chief executive of the PPA, said: ‘This event is now in its 35th year and is always the biggest night in the magazine media calendar.

‘To be shortlisted is a real honour that opens up the prospect of joining our legendary Roll of Honour.’

The AJ’s publisher, EMAP is also up for a gong, having been shortlisted for business media brand of the year.

All of the winners will be announced at the awards ceremony at The Grosvenor House Hotel on 9 July.
