Witherford Watson Mann’s Stirling Prize contender Astley Castle has been named on the five-strong shortlist vying for the ‘best house in the UK’ award
The practice’s sensitive renewal of a dilipidated castle in rural Warwickshire is shortlisted for the Manser Medal alongside two other National RIBA Award winners - Carl Turner’s Slip House and Crowbrook by 2006 Manser Medal victors Knox Bhavan Architects.
A pair of Regional RIBA Award winners, Downley House by Birds Portchmouth Russum Architects and ShedKM’s Rockmount, complete the list.
This year’s judging panel include architects, Michael Manser, Hugh Broughton, Joe Morris and Caroline Cole, along with Tony Chapman, RIBA Head of Awards.
The winner will be announced at the RIBA Stirling Prize party on Thursday 26 September in London. The winning architect will receive a trophy designed by the artist Petr Weigl.
