AJ editor-in-chief Christine Murray has been highly commended at the 2017 British Society of Magazine Editors Awards
Murray, who joined the AJ 10 years ago and became editor in 2010, narrowly missed out on the top prize in the trade and professional section of this year’s editors award, which was won by Inside Housing’s Emma Maier.
The judges hailed the AJ as ’a must-read journal that has reinvented itself and is the still the lifeblood of its industry’.
The title was well represented at the London ceremony, presented by BSME chair Catherine Westwood along with Bridget Jones’s Diary actor Sally Phillips.
Murray was nominated for Editor of the Year in the music, arts and literary category in her role as editor in chief of the AJ’s sister title The Architectural Review.
Ella Mackinnon, the AJ’s art director, was nominated for Cover of the Year for her Women in Architecture cover.
Murray was also nominated for Columnist of the Year for The Architectural Review, while that magazine’s art director Tom Carpenter was shortlisted for Art Director of the Year – an award he won in 2016.
